DEACTIVATED 5th JAN 2020. Reports saying the Starlings have moved on. UPDATED, 1st JAN 2020. The Otmoor roost was active on 29/12/19 with some 5,000 to 10,000 birds displaying at dusk. However, this is well below numbers seen here in recent years. Approach from Beckley village and park in the reserve car park. At weekends this gets full by 2.30 pm and parking on the roads is difficult. The starling roost is a 20-minute walk from the car park down a muddy track. It is clearly signed. The reserve also has large numbers of roosting lapwings and golden plovers whose large flocks can be mistaken for starlings from a distance.

NEW ENTRY OCTOBER 2019 We observed 2 large groups come together measuring 10k in all. The best observation was the beach trail or fen trail blinds. We saw the murmuration from 5 to 6:15 on both 14 and 15 October. Numbers are growing.

REPORTED as now Active, although only small numbers c.1000 birds seen at 5:15pm bathing in puddles on the footpath at South Hide and then took off over the reedbeds behind the South Hide. Displayed for 10-15 minutes, pursued by peregrine twice. UPDATE 30th December, no roosting reported UPDATE 28th DEC. Roost has split, Island Mere AND North Wall/Dunwich Heath.The Starlings have returned to Minsmere (Reported to us 17th October 2018) with approximately 5000 settling behind South Hide. (17/18)

REACTIVATED OCT 2020.. UPDATED, 5th November....From the car park at the reserve, following the one way trail now in place until the kingfisher hide wall, then on up the hill. You can stop at the bench on the right to see the murmuration at the ridge to the west or continue on, taking the right hand path to far end of the loop to get closer.
On by Nov5 they started arriving in numbers from 16:15 and the last went to roost at 16:45 Large amounts roosting here again UPDATE FEB 2020 Walked round the Ron Taylor trail to the far end & moved back & forth to see either side of the copse of trees. They moved around the lakes & eventually roosted further west of the path. First started arriving at 16.10 in drubs & drabs & full flock by 16,45
Wheelchair friendly 20th Jan 2020,19 jan: groups started flying in around 4.15 and very large group by 4.30. No idea how many as first I’ve ever seen! Best place to watch them was on the west end of the loop in the Roy Taylor trail. It’s the green line on the map. Beautiful sunset views too. REACTIVATED DEC 2019 Went to Fairburn Ings today (24/12/19) and there was a large murmuration around 3.50pm. It was the first large one I have seen so I don’t have an idea of the number of birds but was several thousand at a guess and was very impressive.

NEW DEC 2020 North Warren nature reserve - RSPB reed bed loop. Starlings have returned (about a week ago) after many years' absence. Murmuration about 3.45 - 4.00 at the moment. Visible from look out on boardwalk at North west of the reed bed, and from public bench on south east of the reed bed.
