As always, this isn't the definitive list of Starling Roost locations, only those we have been told about of found on the various Social Media platforms. 
So, October 2019 saw the start of the Murmuration Map again for this season and we have had some of the regular roost locations as well as quite a few new locations for the map too, which is good.
for a couple of the reserves that the Starlings use, these have had their Starlings arrive about a month earlier than previous years with some in greater numbers too. 
All sites should see numbers grow over the next few weeks as more migrating birds come to the UK to join our resident Starlings so the map should turn more and more red by the end of next month.

With a week of October still left the active roost sites are coming in.

So far there have been 31 Starling roost locations either reactivated or added as new roost locations through people reporting them to us via our online form. For that we thank you.

As well as the forms sent to us we also carry out searches of various social media platforms like Twitter, Youtube and Facebook to try to find any extra locations posted by people that may not know about our website or murmuration map.

We have just updated the #murmurationmap tonight and two great locations are now Active. 

RSPB Ham Wall has decent numbers now roosting, but a video on Twitter shows amazing numbers coming to roost at Rough Tor in Cornwall. 

Good to see the roost site reports coming in now and the Map starting to look better.

Here's to the next couple of weeks and hopefully more locations. 

Well, where did that Spring and Summer go? 
Firstly apologies that not a lot of work up front on the website has been done and it still looks the same. I have however been working behind the scenes adding 'stuff' (non technical term) to various parts of the website to try to make it higher in the search engine rankings. We are gradually getting there.

Secondly, I didn't really use this Blog section much last season due to a lot of reasons. I have now decided to narrow down my other Social Media activities, mainly admin duties on groups etc so I can concentrate more on my own projects such as the Starling Website and map etc. 
With the #murmurationmap I am looking in to a custom marker in the form of a Starling silhouette to replace the Red marker showing sites as active. I have noticed recently that one Google Maps on my phone, the markers as still shown as white so they do not stand out as much. This seems ok via the map link on the website though. Technology eh?? 
I hope that if I change the 'Active' marker to a custom one then that should make it easier for people to see active roost sites.
